Gov. John Carney signs Autism Acceptance and Inclusion Proclamation

Self-advocates, advocates, friends, and family came out for Smart Cookie Day

On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, Governor John Carney signed a proclamation declaring the month of April “Autism Acceptance and Inclusion Month” in Delaware. This month is known nationally as “Autism Awareness Month.”

Gov. Carney and Autism Delaware Executive Director Brian Hall were joined at the signing by leaders from the Department of Health and Social Services, the Department of Education, and the Developmental Disabilities Council, members of the General Assembly, Autism Delaware staff and participants, as well as self-advocates and advocates from the community to fill the Delaware Public Archives with enthusiastic supporters of people on the spectrum.

This proclamation marks the beginning of Autism Delaware celebration of its 25th anniversary year, a celebration that began with a new logo and organizational rebranding and will culminate in a 25th Anniversary Gala on November 11, 2023, in Dover.
